Bio

Born in September 14th, 1978, in San José, Costa Rica. Soon enough, I took the gypsy road in life when my family moved to Sta. Marta, Colombia in 1980. Childhood is great when you grow up in a small coastal town and you live in front of the sea. It was the 80's: music was fantastic, fashion was disastrous, and video games were booming; life couldn't be better.

Ten years after, we prepped up the wagons and moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador. I found a surprisingly warm environment, full of lovely people and South American charm. Time flies by when you're having fun, so we moved once again.

Cut to San José, Costa Rica, 1993. Found our way back home where I settled for a few years. I graduated from high school when I was 16 years old having the certainty that I wanted to study graphic design. I took the 3 year program at Veritas University and started working right away.

My first job was a small classified ads newspaper; I was the one and only graphic designer, junior and senior designer as soon as I stepped in. You learn a lot in your first job; no matter how small or crappy, you learn just as much as you do in all your years in school. It was painful but priceless.

In 1999, I moved on to a better job, at a graphic design studio. It was small but they did a variety of different jobs and that's always interesting. Besides, working in small places means you get to do more, interact a lot closer with people, and because you're in the trenches, you learn a lot. Until you hit your limit...

2000 found me working as a web designer at an online sportsbook. It was a small relief to stay away from the pre-press hell for a while. But something else was brewing in my head and felt the need for another change.

Thanks to a friend's advice (gracias Giorgio!), I had a 1 year affair with photography in 2001. It was insanely liberating and exciting, and made me father a few babies that I'm really proud of.

Ten years had passed since I returned to Costa Rica, so it was time again to break the balance of life and move somewhere else. And this was THE BIG MOVE: by myself, leaving home and going to a whole new place. Scary and exciting, one of life's many dichotomies.

I arrived in Toronto, Canada in 2003. Started the 3 year Animation program at Seneca College and found a whole new media to explore. It's been the hardest 3 years of my life, full of sacrifice, hard work, and sleepless nights.

Fresh off school, I landed a job in Graphic Point Design as a multimedia designer, in the absence of any solid positions in animation or gaming. GPD went on to become Casco Design & Communications and it provided a nurturing environment, both personally and professionally.

Additionally, I had the privilege to work with Dave Baas on a little (and lingering) project called "Skylight". I had a blast and learned a lot from working wtih Dave and the Skylight crew.

Today, I feel ready to move on and face a new challenge. Future awaits and there's a whole career in texturing to be developed. As so it goes...
